Petition, dated 12 January 1798, from the Scottish Bishops to King Charles IV, asking him to appoint a rector to succeed Alexander Cameron. The three names proposed are John Gordon, aeneas Chisholm and Alexander CAmeron II. he first-named was duly appointed. Chisholm became a bishop in 1805 and Cameron II succeeded Gordon as rector of the college. The document is signed by John Chisholm (aeneas Chisholm's elder brother), George Hay and John geddes (whose signature, a year prior to his death, had become very spidery). (College archives 67/2.)
